Mizuno JPX-900 Tour Individual Irons and Wedges

With the introduction of the JPX-900 Tour iron, the company now boasts a better player model that has the look of a small cavity-back model with less offset, straighter lines and a low toe profile.

What separates the iron from previous better-player models, like the popular MP-25 and MP-64, is the technology that's packed inside the head, giving it the performance characteristics that are historically seen in larger profile irons.

The Grain Flow Forged 1025E Pure Select Mild carbon steel that was used to create the iron — Mizuno's exclusive plant in Hiroshima, Japan handled the forging — is produced to six times industry tolerance, with similar feel and feedback to Mizuno's MP iron model.

Reinforcing the better-player profile is a low toe height, compact face gauge and narrow, tapered sole that's thinner than anything Mizuno has ever produced in the JPX line. The sole geometries are in line with what's currently found on previous versions of the MP, meaning players will notice a bump in versatility and crisp turf interaction.

A new PowerFrame design was added to the cavity that gives the iron a unique look and increases moment of inertia (MOI), improving forgiveness and protecting ball speeds on off-center strikes. While better players are used to sacrificing forgiveness for workability and feel, Mizuno believes it has found the perfect balance with JPX-900 — an iron that could become a popular option for TOUR players in the coming months.

The company's H.I.T (Harmonic Impact Technology), a vibration management technology, was also used to give the iron a sound and feel that mimics MP-64, but in an updated package that includes even more technology.

Mizuno paid particular attention to the stock shaft offering as well, tapping True Temper's Dynamic Gold AMT S300. The shaft features ascending weighting, with the 3-iron shaft being the lightest in the set and increasing in weight in three-gram increments through the pitching wedge.

The launch conditions remain relatively the same throughout the set, with the exception of the long irons that produce a slightly higher launch, due to increased swing speed that's produced through the lighter shaft weight.
